Neptune Energy today announced drilling has begun at its operated Adorf Z19 gas production well in the municipality of Georgsdorf in north-west Germany.

The well is being drilled by KCA Deutag, with a final depth of around 4,200 metres expected to be reached in May this year. According to current planning the team on site will spud a further well (Adorf Z20) in direct succession at the same location.

Construction of a dedicated processing plant at the site to treat the gas will also be completed in 2025.

Neptune Energy’s CEO, Andreas Scheck, said: “The Adorf Carboniferous field development is one of our most promising activities in Germany and demonstrates our desire to grow the business in this area.

“The Adorf field is already an important contributor to domestic energy supplies in Germany, providing enough gas to heat more than 200,000 households.”

The Adorf gas field was discovered in 2020 and the first well, Adorf Z15, went into production in the same year. A second well, Adorf Z16, started production at the beginning of 2022. Two further wells, Adorf Z17 and Adorf Z18, increased Neptune’s production in the licence area to around 9,000 boepd in 2023.

Neptune Energy owns 100% of the Adorf Carboniferous gas field.
