Construction of a new processing facility at Clusterplatz I in Speyer

02. April 2026

A new processing facility  is currently being built at Clusterplatz I in Siemensstrasse in Speyer. This will replace the two plants currently in operation from the second quarter of 2027. The processing facility separates the extracted components crude oil, reservoir water and natural gas and prepares the crude oil for onward transport to the refinery. It forms a central component of the production infrastructure at the Römerberg-Speyer site. The measures serve to strengthen the infrastructure and secure the processing of production volumes in the long term.

Construction site and project scope

The construction site is currently being set up before the expansion of the plant begins. The modernisation is one of the most important investment projects of the year and supports the long-term development of crude oil production from the Römerberg-Speyer field. The consortium is investing an amount in the high double-digit millions. "The expansion of Cluster Site I is a clear commitment to the Speyer site," explains Horst Prei, responsible for production in Speyer at Neptune Energy. "With the modernisation, we are creating the conditions for further technical development and long-term operation of the site."

Gradual implementation over the course of the year

As part of the project, a new combined heat and power plant will be built to efficiently utilise the natural gas extracted as well as three new storage tanks, each with a capacity of around 300 cubic metres.

The construction work will extend over the entire year and take place in several phases. The new technical infrastructure will adapt the processing capacity to future requirements. No additional space will be required as all work will be carried out within the existing central field station.

All measures will be carried out in compliance with the applicable safety and environmental standards and under the supervision of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Office for Geology and Mining.
