Our four core values

  • The safety of our employees, contractors, suppliers and the communities in which we operate is the foundation for everything we do - because nothing is of value if we do not fulfil our responsibilities here.
  • Teamwork is how we work and grow together every day. Although we are many people in many locations, we will only be successful if we work together as a team.
  • Individual responsibility for our actions is important to us. Our colleagues are personally committed to the future of our company. The contribution and expertise of all Neptune Energy employees is relevant.
  • For us, integrity means the obligation to act ethically, to respect all people equally and to be open to the concerns of our stakeholders.

Neptune Energy: Past shapes the future

We have been called Neptune Energy since February 2018. It's been a long road to get here. It involved several mergers, name changes and company takeovers. The roots of our German business go back more than 135 years.
A piece of contemporary history of the German oil and gas industry: an overview of our history

Carl Deilmann founded his mining company in 1888, laying the foundations for our company today. The oil and later natural gas deposits in western Lower Saxony played a decisive role in the development of our activities. One of our predecessor companies, Deutsche Schachtbau- und Tiefbohrgesellschaft (DST), discovered the first oil in this region in February 1942 with the Dalum 2 well. The search for oil and gas developed from a pioneering business into a modern industry.

Over the decades, the company name changed several times: Preussag, Gaz de France, GDF SUEZ and ENGIE. With the takeover of Erdöl-Erdgas Gommern by the then Gaz de France in 1994, the local focus expanded to include eastern Germany - in particular the Altmark region, the second-largest natural gas deposit on the western European mainland.

Neptune Energy has been headquartered in Hanover since 2021. We have been an independent German company without group affiliation since 2024. Our owners are China Investment Corporation, CVC Capital Partners and The Carlyle Group.
