Energy for today.
Responsibility for tomorrow.

Base
We produce gas and oil in Germany

Responsible extraction of traditional raw materials is our base. We cannot do without them. Natural gas and crude oil are the foundation of our supply for industrial processes, reliable heat and mobility. They are necessary for our everyday lives - for medicines, clothing and wind turbines. Our task is to make the existing supply of energy and raw materials as secure, efficient and low-emission as possible. As one of the most experienced producers of raw materials in Germany, we produce natural gas and crude oil responsibly and directly on site.

Natural gas and oil production from and for Germany

We show that it is possible to produce traditional raw materials in an environmentally friendly way and close to where they are consumed. Our many years of experience make it possible. With our domestic production, we contribute to security of supply - with a significantly lowerCO2 footprint than international imports and under the highest German safety and environmental standards.
We produce today what will count tomorrow. How do we do that? We distinguish between three important process steps: search, find and produce.

Search - The principle of seismics

Before we can produce natural gas and oil, we first have to find these raw materials. To do this, we take a close look at the ground, the data and the framework conditions. After all, any responsible energy production begins with a deep understanding of what lies beneath the surface. First of all, we need knowledge about the nature of the subsurface. Our experts collect information about geological structures. With a great deal of expertise and experience, they can interpret this and recognise where oil and gas can be found underground. We talk about reservoirs. But how do we collect this information? We create a spatial image of the subsurface with the help of seismic measurements.

Collecting geological information: For the energy supply of tomorrow

The technically sophisticated seismic investigation principle is based on energy waves. Measurement teams use vibroseismic vehicles to trigger sound waves on the earth's surface. The different layers of rock reflect the waves and send them back to the surface. There, earth microphones pick up the energy waves. Each layer of rock reflects the waves differently, creating a spatial image of the geological structures - in some cases from depths of 5,000 to 6,000 metres. Our geologists can interpret and analyse the data after extensive computer processing. This is how they find potential oil and gas deposits.

Finding - energy that our society needs

The analysed data from the seismic measurements form the basis for an oil or natural gas appraisal well: an exploratory well. With the help of innovative drilling techniques, we explore whether the suspected oil and gas deposit actually exists and can be extracted. The well proves the assumptions from the seismic data. We call the process of drilling a well "sinking".

Test drilling: using modern drilling technology to tap into natural gas or oil deposits

With the help of innovative drilling techniques, we are now tapping into deposits that were previously technically and economically impossible to utilise. Drilling a natural gas or oil well is still a technical masterpiece.

First, we select the location of a well. In doing so, we pay attention not only to the geological structures, but also to the local conditions on site. For example, the proximity to residential areas, traffic routes or ecological conservation areas.

Work begins with the construction of the access road and the well site. If necessary, noise barriers surround the site. On the well site, specialists set up the drilling rig and operate it around the clock in shifts. Within a few weeks, the team drills the well on site - sometimes several thousand metres deep. After brief production tests, the team dismantles the drilling rig on site and our experts decide how to proceed.

Producing - with technological precision and safe processes

Now our experts are setting up production and processing facilities. The teams on site usually reduce the size of the well site. In most cases, the areas required for our further operations are no larger than a double garage. Typical production systems are, for example, so-called horse head pumps or production probes. At some locations, we drill several wells from central cluster sites.
In this case, the existing infrastructure is already in place from previous wells. In most cases, pipelines transport the extracted crude oil or natural gas for further processing.

The time required for economic production varies and depends on the conditions of the reservoir. In order to be able to produce natural gas and crude oil in Germany in the long term, we carry out regular cleaning and maintenance work on wells and the surface facilities. In total, we are responsible for hundreds of wells, pipelines and operating sites. We monitor all activities around the clock, 365 days a year.

High safety standards for gas and oil production

The extraction of natural gas and crude oil in Germany requires not only experience, but also the utmost technological care. At Neptune Energy, we rely on state-of-the-art drilling technology, low-emission production systems and digital monitoring systems that provide feedback in real time. Our processes are designed to be safe, efficient and as environmentally friendly as possible.

Every well is subject to strict environmental and safety regulations. All our activities are carried out in close consultation with the relevant state mining authorities.

We produce natural gas and oil for everyone.

We produce raw materials for freezing people

Around one in two private homes in Germany is heated with natural gas.

We produce raw materials for forward thinkers

Each wind turbine consists of 45% crude oil and products from the petrochemical industry.

We produce raw materials for technology fans

Whether computer screen, smartphone or games console, petroleum is everywhere.

We produce raw materials for trendsetters

This is because crude oil is the basis for ties made of nylon, bags made of imitation leather or even outdoor jackets made of polyester.
