“Over the past few months, Neptune Energy has invested around 73 million euros in the development of the Adorf Carboniferous natural gas field in the district of Grafschaft Bentheim. In particular, our project team has been busy drilling two new wells, each more than 4,000 metres deep, and constructing the associated surface facilities at a new central field station.
For us deep-drilling engineers, this was an exciting challenge. We deal with issues such as drilling technology, the permitting process, coordination of service providers, logistics, waste disposal and fire safety. Of course, there are sometimes unexpected challenges, for example regarding the nature of the subsoil. After all, we are working with nature here, and we mustn’t forget that. But that is also what makes our work so interesting.
Another particularly noteworthy aspect of the Adorf development is that a wide variety of local specialist firms from the region have contributed their expertise to this project. The firms have shown great dedication during the on-site work, and it is only through this kind of commitment that such projects can be realised. We have known many of our partners for many years. We have now completed a total of six new Adorf wells in this region. Accordingly, we aim to supply around 300,000 households with natural gas in the coming months – close to the consumer and with a significantly better carbon footprint than any imports.”
