“In my day-to-day work, I am constantly reminded of just how central the issue of compliance is to our industry. This is particularly evident to everyone when it comes to health and safety at work, even though compliance encompasses a much wider range of areas. We operate in an environment that inherently carries risks. That is why consistent adherence to our guidelines is essential to protect the health of our colleagues.
At the same time, I have come to realise that safety extends far beyond physical aspects. The way we work together plays an equally important role. Treating one another with respect and fairness creates an environment in which people feel safe – and in which they feel confident enough to address even uncomfortable topics openly.
For me, this means that ethical working conditions – understood as those that protect not only our physical well-being but also the dignity and rights of our colleagues – are not merely a theoretical addition to health and safety. They are an essential prerequisite for acting responsibly. When the right framework is in place, a climate is created in which decisions can be made that are not only professionally sound but also morally justifiable. This has a positive impact on employees and, consequently, on the company.
That is precisely why I value the approach set out in our mission statement for change. The ‘People’ module clearly states that human and organisational factors are crucial to our success. This idea guides me in my day-to-day work – and I am delighted to be able to help ensure that, together, we continue to bring this aspiration to life.”
